SPDIF

SPDIF is an interconnect format for Sony/Phillips digital audio. SPDIF is used in many DVD players, sound cards, and other electrical devices that you could find in a Tech FAQ. Generally, these connectors are 75 ohm coaxial cables. SPDIF doesn’t specify a standard data rate, but you can find data rates for specific uses in something such as a Tech FAQ. Generally, these data rates will be around CD quality- so there is no drawback on the quality. If you are dealing with audio equipment, you are more than likely to use the SPDIF interconnection format. For this reason, it is important to familiarize yourself with this device.
